Veterans Resource Fair

On Saturday, January 11, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dogs Brandy, Brutus (LCC Squad), and Nigel (LCC Staff) were a part of the first Veterans Resource Fair at the Italian American Veterans Museum in Stone Park, Illinois.

The Kare 9s were one of many displayers, offering an explanation of services and benefits available to Veterans. As it often happens, the Kare 9s drew much attention and love from the attendees.

Visitation for Korean War Veteran James Edwin Pryor

On Friday, January 10, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dogs Brandy, Brutus (LCC Squad), and Nigel (LCC Staff) were privileged to attend the visitation for Korean War Veteran James Edwin Pryor, who went to his eternal rest on January 8.

The Kare 9s were present to witness the Honor Guard Ceremony for veteran James.

Family and friends met on Saturday, January 11 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Itasca, Illinois for a Lying in State, with the Funeral Service following.

First Responders

Between Sunday, January 5 and Thursday, January 9, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Micah (Light of the Valley - Elk Grove, California) stayed busy visiting with various first responders to share the love of Jesus Christ.

Stops were made at the Elk Grove Police Department, Sac 9-1-1 Fire Dispatch, and the Consumnes Fire Department, which also included sharing information about the K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry with public education personnel from various fire departments.

We give thanks to God for all those who work in the service and protection of others!

Law Enforcement Appreciation

On Thursday, January 9, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Anna (Trinity - Toledo, Ohio) visited the Sylvania Police Department, the Sylvania Township Police Department, and also approached a Toledo police officer on patrol to express thanks for their service.

January 9 each year is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, so it was a great day to spend some time with our friends in law enforcement!

Blue Blood Drive

On Thursday, January 9, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Julia (King of Glory - Elgin, Illinois), LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Adeena (St. John - Burlington, Illinois), and Eunice (LCC Staff) attended the Jake Keltner Memorial Blue Blood Drive in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Jake was a McHenry County Deputy Sheriff who died in the line of duty on March 7, 2019. Jake's wife, Becki, partnered with Red Cross and Concerns of Police Survivors to host this drive in Jake's memory.

Over 300 pints of blood were donated to help save lives, and it was a blessing to offer comfort to everyone who came out to help.

On Thursday, January 9, for Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dog Shiloh (Christ Our Savior - Dixon, Illinois) visited with officers from the Dixon Police Department to thank them for their service.

Each officer was issued a special "citation" for their work in the community, and to offer God's blessings!

On Wednesday, January 8, LCC Kare 9 Military Ministry Dogs Brutus (LCC Squad), Nigel (LCC Staff), and LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Eve (St. John's - Lombard, Illinois) visited the students and staff at Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

The K-9s were invited to bring some needed stress relief as the students and staff returned from Holiday break. The K-9s shared their love and compassion with many people that day.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Continue to Bring Love to West Freeway Church of Christ, Texas During First Worship After a Tragic Shooting

Following an invitation to respond to a shooting that took place on Sunday, December 29, 2019 midway through a church service at the West Freeway Church of Christ in the city of White Settlement near Fort Worth, Texas, Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) deployed four LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams in fewer than 24 hours. LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams continued to bring comfort this week to the devastated congregation.

After visiting on Monday night, December 30, 2019 with those who attended the vigil at West Freeway Church of Christ, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams were invited to return Sunday, January 5, 2020 for the church's first worship service following the shooting. The main concern was for the children, so our time was split between Sunday school and Bible time.

We visited with children from toddlers to teens, who all had a chance to spend time with LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Pax and Phoebe (St. Paul - Fort Worth, Texas). The children also received a mini stuffed LCC K-9 Comfort Dog to take home and continue the love. After Bible time, we once again enjoyed the sweet a capella singing of the worshiping congregation.

Before leaving, the senior pastor thanked us for coming again. He admitted he never would have thought about inviting us but he said he was glad others who knew of us encouraged the invitation. He said he realized how much it meant to his congregation for us to be there. We let him know we would be available for them if they need us again.

Please keep the families who lost loved ones, the pastor and members of the church in your prayers.

LCC never goes where we are not invited and LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry NEVER charges those we serve. We pick up all of our travel, hotel, and meal costs. We also always put boots and paws on the ground within 24 hours (often fewer) from the time we get the invite.

Your Donations Enable LCC Partners in Haiti to Purchase Food for the Most Vulnerable

Lutheran Church Charities (LCC) continues to work through our Haiti Mission Partners, Ministry in Mission and Mission: Haiti to send emergency funds to Haiti during a current critical humanitarian crisis due to the political unrest.

Thanks to your generous donations, LCC is able to continue to send financial support for food to our mission partners.

Ministry in Mission partners started the new year by dropping in on several shut-ins delivering food. They visited and prayed with their neighbors and brought hope for a better year in 2020.

The prepared food was cooked at a local trade school in Les Cayes, Haiti. Information Technology Trade School (ITT) was started by Lionel Legoute, a local man wanting to help his community. Starting as a computer school, it now branched out into cooking classes. The students helped prepare food for a community meal.

Ministry in Mission is grateful, thankful and blessed to partner with Lutheran Church Charities to help our brothers and sisters in Haiti in this time of need.

Please prayerfully consider making a monetary donation to enable Lutheran Church Charities to continue to send emergency funds to Haiti to help provide food for Haitian adults and children.

Thirty dollars will buy enough rice, oil, maggi, canned fish, spaghetti, and soup to feed one person two meals a day for three weeks. LCC Haiti mission partners are helping the most nutritionally vulnerable but need financial support to do so.

Join LCC as we pray for the protection of the Haitian people and our mission partners, and for peace in Haiti.

Roll Call Rejuvenation Program

On Friday, January 3, LCC K-9 Police Ministry Dogs Eve (St. John - Lombard, Illinois) and Julia (King of Glory - Elgin, Illinois) participated in the Roll Call Rejuvenation program at the Chicago (Illinois) Police Department District 10 Headquarters.

This was part of a stress relief and wellness effort, and the officers enjoyed spending some time with the comfort dogs, who did a great job of lifting the spirits of our brothers and sisters in law enforcement.
