Can You Help LCC Find Free Warehouse Storage For Our Ongoing Ministry?

warehouse In order to be able to respond to disasters swiftly, it is imperative that we operate in a state of preparedness. To be able to do that, it is important that we have our vehicles and equipment stored in a location and environment that will enable us to move quickly.

For the other parts of our ministry, we need:

  • Work space for our volunteers that is a climate controlled environment
  • Has short term storage space for donations till they can be picked up in a few days.
  • A space large enough where we can drive in and store our Disaster response RV and trailers for immediate DEPLOYMENT.
  • A cargo bay allowing us the ability to load semi-trailers would also be nice and useful feature.

If you know of someone who owns or has available warehouse space that isn't being currently used, please contact Tim Hetzner at Lutheran Church Charities. We understand that use of the warehouse would not be permanent and that the owner would have the full rights to regain their facility if it was to be rented or sold. LCC would carry the insurance on the space we are using. Please contact Tim Hetzner, President of LCC at (866) 455-6466 if you know of someone. This would be a tremendous Help in meeting the increased demands LCC faces. Help us to continue to - by the Grace of God - Make A Difference in People's Lives and in God's Kingdom!

Iraqi Family in Need Continuing Need for Bi-Lingual Bibles for Outreach to Muslim College Students

Request from POBLO Missionary Hicham Chehab

Dear Friends,
College years are times of transformation. So we need to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the lost at such a pivotal stage in the lives of People.

POBLO-Chicago's student ministry is reaching out to Muslims at Community Colleges. More Bibles and Evangelism material are needed.

Please consider donating to this cause so that we can answer the call for the Mission of God.

LCC's Bag Mat Project Featured in Chicago Newspaper Articles

The Daily Herald Newspaper wrote an article about the Bag Mat Project on September 7, 2009.

Immanuel Lutheran, Palatine's 50s Plus group decided to make mats from grocery bags, getting the idea from Lutheran Church Charities [play video to see what the project is about].

The Chicago Tribune's TribLocal also ran an article about the project on August 31.

Rev. Jean Bingue Ethnic Ministry in Need of Clothing and Washing Machine

Request from Rev. Jean Bingue, Bethesda Lutheran Church, Chicago

Dear LCC,

I am writing you today to ask for your help. I am looking for some men's, women's and children's clothing for those members of our congregation who are in need. As you know, we have several members who have recently arrived here in the Chicago area with just the clothes on their backs. They are in desperate need. In particular, we are looking for men's suits size 46 x 32, 44 x 32, men's shirts size 2X and 1X. Women's sizes 12, 14, and 16. Children's sizes from 6X to 14.

The cold air of the winter months is rapidly approaching and they will also be in need of coats, hats and gloves. Men's sizes 46 and 44. Women's sizes 12, 14 and 16. Children's sizes from 6X to 14.

Because money is at a premium for these people, they cannot afford to go to a Laundromat to wash the items they do have. It is for that reason that we are looking for a washing machine to set up for use by the members of the congregation.

I truly appreciate your help in getting these items. I hope we will be able to provide something to these people. You always come through for us.

If you have items to donate contact Dianna Bonfield at 866-455-6466 or e-mail  LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org

LCC Comfort Dogs Feurst and Prince at work in Northwest Indiana

LCC Comfort Dog Fuerst had another busy weekend in Indiana. He was at the Alzheimer Memory Walk in Merrillville and at the Wizard of Oz Fest in Chesterton on Saturday, September 19th.

Sunday, September 20th Fuerst and Prince attended a Block Party hosted by Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Portage, Indiana. It was a free picnic for our neighbors that included a fire rig and ambulance as well as Aeros, one of Portage's police K9s. Fuerst is very much at home with the Police & Fire Departments since Pastor Engel is their chaplain.

Read about Jeremiah's Story!

Dear LCC,

God has provided a brother who wants to help me, as much as he can, with our ministry. He is from California, and is currently staying at my house. His name is Jeremiah Baechler (pictured), age 35. I first met him at Concordia, Indiana.

Jeremiah is looking for a room with a bathroom, ideally at a parsonage or something like this with a family, but with a separate door that gives him the ability to move in and out without disturbing anyone. He is looking in the communities of Roselle, Lombard, Wheaton, Addison, Glen Ellyn, Villa Park, Carol Stream, Hanover Park, Schaumburg, or within a ten mile radius of Lombard.

If anyone has a room for Jeremiah they can contact me at hicham.chehab@gmail.com

Popcorn Machine Popcorn Maker Needed

Request from Bethel Family Programs, Humboldt Park Neighborhood, Chicago

Bethel Family Programs has been growing exponentially-fall programs have overflowed to waitlists!-and we're so grateful for all God is doing. There's one particular story that I want to write to LCC about in particular: Taste 4 Change. Taste 4 Change is a concession stand in our gym launched by our teens on Chicago's west side. This summer, Taste 4 Change made a huge impact in these teens' lives and skills. They hadn't realized how important basic addition was until it was their profits they were adding! Budgeting, communication, record-keeping, and basic job readiness were all taught in practical, real-life lessons.

One of their biggest lessons was that pre-packaged snacks don't earn much profit and are easily lost to shoplifters. So we renovated our menu for fall: popcorn and mixable Gatorade. We're on a search now for a movie-style popcorn maker to make this wise business decision (and health decision!) possible. We'd sincerely appreciate it if anyone with a popcorn maker could donate it to us! The donors would receive the undying gratitude of Taste 4 Change youth, who would make them popcorn any time!

If you have a popcorn maker to donate, please contact LCC at (866) 455-6466 or LCC@LutheranChurchCharities.org

If you can donate towards the purchase of a new popcorn maker ($140 needed) for this ministry, please donate here.

Rev. Gizynski Warm Clothing and Blankets Needed

LCC has received the following requests for warm clothing and blankets:

From Pastor Richard Gizynski, Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Chicago:

Ebenezer is once again looking for partner churches in our annual winter coat and blanket drive. We seek any winter coat, male or female, adult or children, new or gently used of all sizes. We can also accept hats, gloves and scarves. In addition we seek blankets of any size or material, from infant to king. Please, no clothing.

If any church would like to partner with us please contact Pastor Rich Gizynski at 773-216-5288.

From Hicham Chehab, POBLO Missionary:
Hicham Chehab, POBLO
Dear Friends,

The cold is coming and some refugees need blankets and warm clothing for winter.

If you have any, please contact me at 630-666-1930 or email hicham.chehab@gmail.com

Donations can also be dropped off at St. John Lombard, Peace Lombard, or Trinity Roselle.

In God's Peace,
Hicham
Support for Mission Trip to Kenya
Request from Peter Imlah, Director of Mission and Outreach, Lutheran Church Charities

Pete Imlah

Dear Friends in Christ,

I have been given an opportunity to join with Salem Lutheran Church, Tomball, Texas (salem4u.com) on a mission trip to provide a prescription eyeglass clinic to people in need in Kenya, Africa, November 12-22 2009.

I am really excited about this opportunity to minister in Kenya.  During Salem's last trip to Kenya in May they were able to serve and share the Gospel Message with more than 15,000 people at 5 different locations!

The November trip will cost me just over $3,500 (not including passport and shots), with the biggest portion coming from airfare.  This is a big number, but I believe our God is bigger than that hurdle.  Any support would be appreciated.  I would love the opportunity to partner with you in this endeavor.

Due to the costs of rising airfare I needed to reserve my tickets by August 12th. The remaining funds are due September 4th. Would you prayerfully consider and respond to my request by Sunday, August 30th? If I have 50-100 people partner with me I would get where I need to be quite easily (many hands make for light work).  If you have any questions or comments please don't hesitate to email me at pete@lutheranchurchcharities.org

I believe that the Lord speaks to us through our brothers and sisters in Christ and I would appreciate your input.

Rev. Tilahun Mendedo Thanksgiving Baskets for Mobile Alabama

Request from Pastor Tillahun Menedo, Faith Lutheran Church, Mobile, Alabama

Again this year the Evangelism Committee at Faith Lutheran Church, Mobile is attempting to serve the needs within our own congregation and the local community, especially at this time of the year and at this critical time in our economy. We are so thankful for your past support for this project and give all the Glory and Praise to God.  We are in the process of soliciting funding for our annual Thanksgiving Baskets for the needy and are seeking your help. We are planning to construct 6 baskets and anticipate the cost of each basket to be about $40.00. To God be the Glory that this project will be a success again this year and will bless each recipient of these baskets with a meal for Thanksgiving that they otherwise may not have had. We do all of this in the name of Our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

We thank God for any considerations that you may give to this request and may God continue to bless you and your effort to provide assistance to all of the needed.

Lundenwood Food Pantry Visitor from Haiti Available for Temporary Work
Request from Tim Kaufman, Director of Student Ministry, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Palatine

Lionel Legoute has served as our translator on our mission trips to Les Cayes, Haiti the past couple of years. He is in his mid-30's and will be staying in the Palatine-area for a few weeks between Sept. 19-October 29. He has a real love for the Lord and is very liked by our teams. He will spend some time with me learning about the work of the church here in the states and how we do "church" at Prince of Peace.

However, it would also be good for him to earn some money that he can use for his family back in Haiti. Due to the nature of his visa and his short time here, he would only be able to pick up odd jobs. He is very open to doing anything, so the type of job isn't in question.  He'll be staying in Palatine with members of Prince of Peace and we could get him to places to work as necessary.

If you have any work for Lionel please contact me at the church office 847-359-3451 ext.116 or email tim@reachgrowserve.org

At this time, the need for funds to cover chaplain salaries, travel and other basic ministry expenses in especially severe.

Ethiopian Child Needs Specialized Medical Operation
Request from Rev. Tilahun Mendedo, Faith Lutheran Church, Mobile, Alabama
Tamirat Berhanu is a wonderful child of Christ and one of the children in Master Builders Center project. He is 10 years old but already in 7th grade. He lost his dad to HIV and his mom has no income at all except the $25 she receives from MBC every month. She uses this fund to help Tamirat and other siblings in the house.

Tamirat needs to have a pediatric cystoscopy, but there are not any doctors in Ethiopia that can perform this procedure.  We are looking for help in obtaining funds so that he can be treated in South Africa or Israel.  Another option is for an urologist in the US to be able to perform this operation.

WARNING #1:  You may not believe this story.  That's a normal reaction, don't worry.

WARNING #2:  If you do not believe this story, you will be... wrong. (Thank the Lord!)

Welcome to an African adventure - right here in Northern Illinois!

Hannah's temperature skyrocketed to 104 degrees last Thursday evening.  After 4 days of wrangling a 'flu' with Tylenol and chicken soup, we rushed our special guest from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana to the ER at Central DuPage Hospital.  She was so weak that she could barely open her mouth to have her temperature taken.  We were very, very scared.

Click here to read how she was healed!

Please Help Deaconess Hannah!
YOU can participate in showing Christ's Mercy in this amazing story too!

  • $2000 = Dcs. Hannah's personal bank loan to come to America.  With her teacher's salary of $4000/yr, this loan will take over a year to pay back. Let's give her a hand with that!

  • $500 = Food and travel expenses while she's in the US for one more month.
Click here to donate to Hannah's travel expenses
  • $3600 = OUCH.  Medical Bills = 1 ER Visit + 2  Blood Tests. We are filing lots of paperwork with CDH and hope to have this bill reduced.  Any remaining funds will go directly to ELCG outreach efforts in the rural villages of Ghana.
Click here to donate to Hannah's medical expenses

$0 - There was no charge for the new treatment LCC doctors gave Hannah to end her malaria fever.

It is our fervent prayer that members of the Body of Christ across the globe may soon join us in using this new treatment as The Great Physician opens doors, bringing the gospel to new places and new faces we have not been allowed to reach before.

How did the books of the Bible come to be recognized as Holy Scripture?Who decided what shape the canon should take? What criteria influenced these decisions? After nearly nineteen centuries the canon of Scripture still remains an issue of debate.

In this significant historical study, F. F. Bruce brings the wisdom of a lifetime of reflection and biblical interpretation to bear in answering the questions and clearing away the confusion surrounding the Christian canon of Scripture. Adept in both Old and New Testament studies, he brings a rare comprehensive perspective to his task.Though some issues have shifted since the original publication of this book, it still remains a significant landmark and touchstone for further studies.
