The medical supplies will be flown into Port au Prince Haiti with the team then loaded onto a boat and ferried to Jeremie for use in the medical clinic on Monday. |

Sunday, February 28th was the last day of the month-long Haiti Collection in Rochester, New York. On Sunday evening, a tired but very excited Lynn Lillie called LCC staff member Dianna Bonfield to say that Sunday afternoon all but two of the 17 collection sites had dropped off the items they had collected over the past month. Collections from the last two sites on Monday afternoon netted 37 more large boxes, six large cases of water, and a tent. They began sorting, labeling, weighing, and recording all the items Sunday afternoon. They will continue to work through the rest of the week and the evenings at Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Fairport, New York. On Friday, March 5th, Orphan Grain Train (OGT) will drop off a sea container for them to fill, and at 3 PM the container will be sealed and OGT will pick it up and deliver it to a ship that will take it to Port Au Prince, Haiti.

| On Monday morning LCC received a call from Deaconess Intern Cindy Lumley, the Assistant Director of Deaconess Studies at Fort Wayne Seminary. She asked if LCC had another shipment of supplies for Haiti going out soon. The Deaconess Students at the Seminary had coordinated a collection. Donations were brought in by the Seminary students and faculty as well as the wider Fort Wayne Community. They collected enough items from the collection list to fill eight pallets. This week these pallets will be shipped by JAT of Fort Wayne Indiana, free of charge, to the collection site at Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Fairport, New York. Once there it will be added to the sea container and shipped with the New York collection to Port Au Prince. |
Like the Multiplication of the Loaf of Bread and the Fish, God's Spirit is Still Multiplying Donations that will Help Many in Haiti
Mark Barbero, a member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Fairport, New York, is very familiar with that miracle in the scriptures but he didn't expect to see it repeated in his own life.
Last Sunday, Mark Lillie, one of the coordinators for the Haiti Collection Site at Risen Christ, updated the congregation on the progress of the collections as the worshipers could visually see the donations growing around them in the sanctuary. After the service, Mark Barbero, the owner of Debbie Supply Inc, a 53-year-old family owned and operated hardware store, asked what else he could do to help with the collection. Debbie Supply is already a collection site for the community. They are also donating the pallets and the use of a fork lift to load the shipping container from Orphan Grain Train. Mark learned that they needed tools in Haiti to help dig through the rubble (the Haitians have been doing this by hand) and decided that since he owned a hardware store, and tools were his business, he could donate some tools.
On Sunday evening, he poured though the stock catalog from which he orders supplies for his store, looking for tools and items that could be used to help with the recovery efforts, or to start to rebuilding homes. At 9:30 p.m. Mark emailed the completed order form, along with a note to a long time friend Damien (who was the sales rep at Bostwick-Braun), telling him that this was a special rush order and would go into the Haiti collection container.
At six a.m. the next morning, Mark checked his e-mail before going to work and found a reply from Damien. He told Mark that Bostwick-Braun would match his order and send him double of what he had ordered! By Tuesday a good portion of the order had arrived and the rest would be delivered before the final collection day, this Sunday, February 28th, and in time to place it before the altar at church with the other donations that were dropped off this week.

17 Collection Sites in Rochester, NY
It was almost 10 years ago that Mark and Lynn Lillie, along with their best friends Ken and Sue Gross of Orland, Park IL, went on their first mission trip together to Haiti. Through subsequent mission trips they built relationships and friendships with people of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Haiti and fell in love with the Haitian people and the culture of Haiti. When LCC put out a request for collection sites for donations for Haiti Relief Mark and Lynn heard a clear call from the Lord to respond. Talking it over with other friends and Pastor Deknatel of Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Rochester, NY they responded by listing their church as a collection site. Together they went to work to procure a warehouse, packing equipment, donations of packing supplies, and other collection sites and coordinators. They decided to begin their collection on February 1st and continue through the month of February. With two weeks left, they are hoping to more than double what they have now. (pictured above is what members of Risen Christ brought in the first two weeks).
When Pastor Deknatel heard of the collection he suggested that the boxes be stacked up in the sanctuary of the church so as to emphasize the need and the ministry. Lynn reported "Pastor Deknatel is hoping we will not have enough room in our church to sit as the boxes pile up." What a great visual to remind us to continue to pray for the people in Haiti and to keep bringing them hope. After two weeks, the area on the platform next to the altar has nearly 100 boxes stacked to the ceiling and four rows deep.
Word got out and some of the public schools and businesses heard what Risen Christ was doing, they wanted to be part of the action. A local school district decided to use the funds from the district's annual basketball game charity fundraiser (that will be held in middle or late Feb) will be donated to Haiti. They are looking to raise nearly $3000 to aid Haiti.
What a great thing God is doing in and through his people in Rochester, NY. Pray that God blesses their efforts to touch the lives of the people of Haiti and to proclaim the love and compassion of Christ in all they do.

Thursday, 3 more Semi Trucks left Chicago to South Carolina with Soup Powder, Baby Ointment, Rice Milk and 4 pallets of food items. We also have a truck being sent up to South Carolina from New Orleans containing Creole Beans and Rice and an additional 250 pallets (20,500 cases) of bottled water being sent by rail from California.
All the trucks should arrive at the warehouse by Monday morning and, hopefully, will be in Haiti the following week!
