Chapel Visit to St. Paul's, Chicago Heights

On Wednesday, March 27th, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Zina, Darlin, Zippy, with LCC K-9 Comfort Dog in Training Zoey, traveled with LCC staff members Marshal & Kolyssa Frisque and Bruce Knosher and their handlers to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chicago Heights. There they presented the Chapel message and had a school visit with all of the children from the day school. Lots of the dogs' business cards were handed out and the kids and faculty really enjoyed the visit! While there they received a check from offerings collected by the Sunday School for the K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry.

Butter Report

Spike and I attended SJS Open House last Thursday. We met lots of people and saw some neat projects the kids had made. I visited Crystal Pines with Kathy where we talked and prayed with Elizabeth. I greeted at church on Sunday. On Monday I spent time with Mary Jane. I went to see Pastor on Wednesday. It was good to feel his touch and hear his voice. Happy Easter!

Comfort Dog Bekah enjoyed herself as she got to meet Rosie, the donkey, when Immanuel in Belvidere, Illinois celebrated a live reenactment of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey on Palm Sunday.

St.Paul's Preschool Open House, Lockport IL on March 19

St Paul's Lutheran Church and School in Lockport, Illinois kicked off their new expanded pre-school curriculum with an Open House on March 19, 2013. Parents and children had a chance to hear about the programs being offered at St Paul's and to visit the classrooms. During their visit they also had a chance to meet and pet the K-9 Comfort Dogs. Shami, from St. John Darien, Olympia, Ruthie and Samuel all greeted the children and parents.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Addie and Maggie visit Sandy Hook Elementary School

Comfort sisters Addie and Maggie came to work together today at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Addie showed Maggie the new playground and gave her the tour of the school. Maggie greeted kids coming into school and did her first classroom visit.

Butter Report

Thanks to Debbie and Cliff and my special friend Otis for a fun time the last couple weeks. He even sent a favorite chew toy home with me. I have been to Crystal Pines with Kathy and Debbie. I have greeted at church on Sunday and on Wednesday. On Monday I spent time with Mary Jane. I was at T'ai Chi on Tuesday. There I met up with SJS kids in their 70's and 80's outfits. I visited Dale at the Springs where I was petted on my way in and my way out by so many workers and residents. Still missing Pastor.

They talked about the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry and how the dogs are a bridge to ministry that is happening every day.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Maggie Travels to Newtown, Connecticut on Assignment

On Monday, March 25, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Maggie set out on her journey to Christ The King Lutheran Church in Newtown, CT. She will be working with CTK as well as the Connecticut Department of Children and Family and their counselors as they meet with the children and community of Newtown.

Stress Relief Session at Kettering University Brings Students Comfort Just in Time for Final Exams

What does the stress of final exams, the students of Kettering University, Christ Lutheran Church, and 2 comfort dogs have in common? A stress reliever session at the beginning of final exams week.

For the second year in a row, Faith Comfort Dog of Christ Lutheran Church in Goodrich, Michigan visited the campus of Kettering University for a few hours at the beginning of final exams week. This visit was extra special since Faith took along Micah Comfort Dog in Training. Micah, just seven weeks old, made his first official meet and greet debut at the stress reliever session. According to Linda Todd, the trainer/handler of Faith and Micah, both dogs were a big hit. While Faith lay quietly on her quilt just enjoying the petting from the students, Micah was busy walking from student to student.

Micah gladly accepted all the petting and cuddling the students lavished in him. The day was just a bit tiring for Micah who ended up falling asleep in the arms of one of the students cuddling with him. Even though he fell asleep, the comfort didn't stop. Micah was so relaxed that as the students took turns cuddling with him, he didn't even wake up from his nap. Pastor Todd of Christ Lutheran stated that the meet and greet session was a big hit with the students. And this year, even more students came to visit with the dogs than at last year's visit.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Samuel's Passing of the Leash held at the Lockport Fire Department

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry Co-directors Rich & Dona Martin met Rev. Mark Hein of St.Paul, Lockport, IL at the Lockport Fire Station for the passing of Comfort Dog Samuel's leash. Rev. Hein is the Fire Chaplain for the Lockport Fire Department.

The ceremony included Chief David Skoryi. Chief Skoryi's daughter was a student at the time of the shooting at Northern Illinois University in 2008. They remember what it meant for everyone to have LCC bring K99's on campus. Also present were Donna Hein, officials from the congregation and Comfort Dogs Olympia and Ruthie.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Maggie Joins Her Sister, Addie in Newtown, Connecticut

Christ the King Lutheran Church plans to use Comfort Dog Maggie in Continued Healing Process

It was an emotional beginning as LCC K-9 Comfort Dog sisters, Maggie and Addie, were reunited at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newtown, Connecticut. They picked up right where they left off in January, in a playful mood.

The handler and caregiver training begins another chapter in the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry in Newtown. Four members of Christ the King were trained along with three caregivers. Also attending the training were five social workers from the Connecticut Department of Children and Family. Comfort Dog Maggie will be participating in a pilot program there working with the counselors and children. Maggie will also be working through Christ the King in the Newtown with individuals and families sharing the Mercy, Compassion, Presence and Proclamation of Jesus with her new handlers Ken and Jodi Fay and Cathy and Kevin Reiss. Maggie will also be giving Addie breaks at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

We wish you all the best in your new assignment Maggie and we thank Comfort Dog Addie and all of her handlers at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury, Connecticut for their continued hearts to serve.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Attend Lake Zurich, IL Expo

Ladel invited her friends JoJo, Ruthie, Adeena, and Olympia to her booth with St. Matthew Hawthorn Woods on Saturday March 16th at the Lake Zurich Expo. They met hundreds of people and some of the nicest business owners in Lake Zurich. Ladel and Ruthie stopped to visit the Lake Zurich Fire and Police booths as well.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs In Training Welcome Their Newest Member, Micah Comfort Dog

Micah will be trained in Goodrich, Michigan at Christ Lutheran Church by Linda Todd, wife of Pastor Kelly Todd. Micah is the newest puppy "In Training" for the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry. He will be helped in his training by veteran LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Faith.

Rachel returned to Illinois on Sunday after completing her formal training in Goodrich, Michigan at Christ Lutheran Church. Rachel will continue to work with LCC trainers until she is permanently placed. She is a happy girl looking forward to her work as an LCC K-9 Comfort Dog.
