K-9 Comfort Dogs Return Home!! Print E-mail
boston return After five days on the road, with visits to New York and Boston, the Comfort Dogs and handlers have arrived home! Addie and Maggie are back in Connecticut and Moses is on his way home to Nebraska. The Chicagoland dogs are back in their respective homes (with a little help from their handlers). They arrived early this evening. Thank you for all of your prayers and support for the Comfort Dogs. K-9 Comfort Dogs Visit Concordia, Mequon Students Print E-mail
k9_cuw.jpg On Thursday, May 9th, LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Zoey, Tara, Adeena, Chewie, Tillie and Gunnar visited the students, faculty and staff at Concordia University Wisconsin to bring comfort and relaxation for finals next week.

There was also an opportunity for K-9 Comfort Dogs Tara, Zoey and Tillie to go visit students with the school counselors during their sessions. The dogs were welcomed by the students and instantly brought peace and comfort.

We wish everyone good luck with exams and a blessed Summer!

K-9 Comfort Dogs Visit Carthage College Print E-mail
k-9 carthage LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Luther, Ruthie, Zoey, Strudel, Hannah and Phoebe helped students "de-stress" for finals at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Students took the time to relax and visit with the Comfort Dogs. According to one student, "this was the greatest thing ever!"

K-9 Comfort Dogs Make School Visit Print E-mail
k9 bethel On Wednesday, May 1st, LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Zeke, along with Comfort Dogs-in-training Phoebe, Lila and Susie and LCC staff Jeanne Moore, Deaconess Tiffany Manor, Alan Mortenson and Pastor Jonathan Manor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bloomington, IL were invited to visit Bethel Lutheran School, Morton, IL for their chapel time and have classroom visits with students.
 
Update: LCC Comfort Dogs and Handlers Return from Waco, Texas Print E-mail
Texas Memorial After a week of sharing the Mercy and Compassion of Jesus Christ with people who were affected by the recent explosion in West, Texas, the LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs, their handlers, and LCC president Tim Hetzner have returned safely home. The team provided comfort and compassion to many who were affected by the fertilizer plant explosion on April 17. They were able to visit with the local school children, First Responders, Baylor University students, nursing home residents and community members.

K-9 Comfort Dogs Visit Department of Probation and Court Services Print E-mail
Dept of Corrections Co-Director of the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry, Dona Martin, and LCC volunteer, Lynn Buhrke, along with K-9 Comfort Dogs Ruthie and Chewie, visited with the Department of Probation and Court Services in Wheaton IL on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

The K-9 presentation was on the use of Comfort Dogs responding to Newtown, CT and more recently, Boston and Texas.

About 26 people attended the presentation; they asked great questions about the K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry. The group was also interested in the use of K-9 Comfort Dogs in the courts.

 
K-9 Visit to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Des Plaines Print E-mail
Immanuel On Sunday, April 28th Tim Hetzner presented 101 Ways to Show the Mercy and Compassion of Christ, that do not cost money- at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Des Plaines, during their Adult study hour. He also discussed the Comfort Dog Ministry and updated the congregation on LCC's recent activities. He was joined by K-9 Comfort Dogs Kye, Bekah, Zippy, Jessy and Ladel.

Buter Report Last Thursday I helped Club 55 visit shut-ins and give out prayer shawls the craft group had made. We saw Martha, Martha, and Dorothy at Eastgate and Pastor Stroup at his home. I sat under the table at the Rainbow while the ladies ate lunch. I attended the LWML Spring Rally on Saturday. Kathy and I visited our friends at Crystal Pines.I greeted at church on Sunday. Then I looked for crumbs from my birthday cake at coffee fellowship. Thanks for coming and for the generous donations! On Monday I spent time with Mary Jane.
 
A Message From K-9 Comfort Dog Star: Print E-mail

I would like to thank Dr. Stapleton and her staff at the Barrington Animal Hospital for the wonderful care when I had surgery. You should have seen me wearing a blue hood with a ruffle so I could not lick my stitches.
A couple of weeks ago, Tranetta and I were invited to Women's Fellowship Meeting at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lee, IL. Tranetta shared the work that we Comfort Dogs do. I shared comfort to them and demonstrated how a Comfort Dog should behave. They have invited me to VBS and I am welcome to attend church anytime.

This week we went to Chapel and visited with students at Trinity Lutheran in Roselle. On the way home, we stopped at Friendship Village to visit with three resident. They are members of Immanuel Lutheran in Palatine.

Chapel Visit to Trinity Lutheran School in Lansing, Illinois Print E-mail
lansing LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs Tillie and handler Dick Bernard, Zina and handler Bruce Knosher, and Barnabas and handler Rev. Tim Engel from Holy Cross Portage, Indianapaid a visit to Trinity Lutheran School in Lansing, Illinois on Wednesday, April 17th. Rev. Engel delivered a message on comfort during the weekly chapel service. After chapel the students got to meet the Comfort Dogs in the school gym.
 
K-9 Comfort Dogs Provide Comfort to Flood Victims in Roanoke, Illinois Print E-mail
Zeke Flooding "My home is all muddy and I got to take a ride in a boat with the firefighter. I was so brave that I got to have a brownie with sprinkles on it" told a young boy who was rescued from flood waters to K-9 Comfort Dog Zeke and handler Marissa Manor. Zeke and Marissa along with Comfort Dogs-in-training Suzie and Lila accompanied by handlers Pastor Bill Jensen, Pastor Jonathan Manor, as well as LCC staff Jeanne Moore and Deaconess Tiffany Manor, were invited by Pastor Bruce Scarbeary of Trinity Lutheran Church, Roanoke, IL to visit flood evacuees sheltered at the church.

LCC visits Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church Print E-mail
Zoey LCC Staff members and volunteers traveled to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Mequon, WI to present to the congregation everything LCC is doing. Along with them were K-9 Comfort Dogs Zina and Star as well as Comfort Dog in Training, Zoey. They were a hit and the congregation looks forward to getting more involved with the ministry.
 
K-9 Visit to Clarendon Hills School Print E-mail
shami LCC volunteer handler Jolene and K-9 Comfort Dog Shami from St. John Darien visited a school last Thursday. Four young children lost their mother the previous Sunday and found her in their back yard, it was due to a heart defect. All four children attended the same grade school in Clarendon Hills and Shami visited each child's classroom and then the younger 1st grader accompanied Jolene to other classrooms. Please pray for this family in their time of loss and need.
