Christmas is a time of Miracles!

When Meagan Seals was born November 10, 2009, her parents and doctors did not expect her to live more than two weeks. Based on her rare condition before birth, she was not expected to be able to hold up her head or even eat, much less survive. Meagan's brain was growing outside of her skull, a condition called encephaloceles. Luellen and Scott were advised by the medical staff to terminate the pregnancy. Because of their belief that all life is a gift from God, they decided not to terminate and place it in God's hands!

When Meagan was born, the hospital told the family that Meagan was not going to live long and to go and make plans at a funeral home. They called their pastor, Phil Ressler at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in La Fox and he came and baptized Meagan in the hospital.

infant MeaganMeagan's mother, Luellen states: "We took pictures, and right after she was baptized, I didn't see this, but everybody else in the room did, the doctors, the nurses, they said she smiled really big! I was crying so hard I didn't even notice."

After the baptism, the family stayed with Meagan, waiting for her expected passing. The doctor removed the CPAP and put her on a little bit of oxygen to keep her comfortable. Within an hour, she opened her eyes, she was looking around. Luellen says, "She was like a totally different baby than we had seen days before. She was just different. I believe it was truly a miracle, that having her baptized was what changed her!"

Now, two years later, Meagan is healthy and has met developmental milestones no one ever expected her to achieve. She lives at home with her family. The family has, and continues to, struggle with their insurance company, who lists Meagan as terminally ill and only wants to cover the minimal expenses.

The family pays out a minimum of $800 a month for medical expenses. Little Meagan has the following immediate needs:

- A special wheelchair for Meagan that will help her body develop and allow her to be more mobile. Since it has to be specially made, the cost is just shy of $6000
- A special stationary chair for her to use at home - cost $500
- An iPad. Her therapist has recommended this as Apple has special programs to help children like Meagan develop her needed skills - cost $500

There are also the ongoing medical bills.

Lutheran Church Charities, in partnership with Lord of Life Lutheran Church, would like to make this Christmas special for little Meagan and her family by trying to provide the above by Christmas Eve.

Christmas is about Christ Jesus, a Miracle Child. Because of this Miracle Child - Meagan is also a Miracle Child!
Ah, dearest Jesus, Holy child,
Make thee a bed, soft, undefiled
Within my heart that it may be
A quiet chamber, kept for Thee.

Ah, dearest Jesus, holy Child,
Make Thee a bed, soft, undefiled
Within my heart, that it may be
A quiet chamber kept for Thee.

My heart for very joy doth leap,
My lips no more can silence keep;
I, too, must sing with joyful tongue
That sweetest ancient cradle song.

Glory to God in highest Heaven,
Who unto man His Son hath given;
While angels sing with tender mirth,
A glad new year to all the earth.
